I began collecting police badges in 1970 a year after I became a police officer for the City of Glendale, California. The first badge I acquired was from the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department. Soon I had a few badges and it just kept growing. I realized that there were police officers in every corner of the world and soon found myself sending letters to far away places to add police badges to my collection.
I have approximately 600 badges in my collection today from all over the world.
In 1974, I became a Deputy Sheriff in San Luis Obispo County (CA). There I expanded my collection tremendously. I was able to obtain many badges from this coastal California county. It was the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's 150th birthday in the year 2000 a.d. Their sesquicentennial badge is displayed on the San Luis Obispo page to the right.
I have retired from law enforcement (California Alcoholic Beverage Control) but not from collecting police badges!
I still enjoy collecting and am presently working on a collection of police badges from Mexico & Latin America.
